What is a Podcast?

The term “podcast” is used to refer to audio content that can be transferred from the Internet onto an electronic audio player like the iphone, ipod or mp3 player.  According to wiseGEEK.com, the word “podcasting” was derived by combining two words—“broadcasting” and “ipod”.

A podcast can be created with very simple audio recording devices or recording software, such as “Audacity” or “FreeConferenceCall.com”.  One of the easiest ways to both create and share podcasts is on Blog Talk Radio—includes free and paid options.  Some Blog Talk Radio show hosts create/record podcasts using “Skype,” and others use the telephone. When the recorded show is complete, the media file is then uploaded (archived) to a Blog Talk Radio podcast file, and made available 24/7 for anyone to listen to and/or download for free.  Podcasting is a great way to promote your book, service, company or event.

Will a person need an iPod to listen to a podcast?
